MTSS / Intervention Toolkit

Overview

North Star’s unique Intervention Toolkit distinguishes it from similar systems. The Intervention Toolkit was developed over the course of several years working with school districts across the country. It enables a prescriptive approach to RTI that is unique to North Star.

Key Concepts

Response to Intervention (RtI) is a three-tiered educational methodology for providing early assistance to young students who are having signs of difficulty with learning literacy, vocabulary, word structure, and composition.

By implementing this framework, academic difficulties can be easily identified and quickly addressed for all students in a classroom using scientific, research-based instruction, or CBM (Curriculum Based Measurement). CBM collects a student’s data and is used to determine where a child will benefit from additional monitoring and assistance to help the student catch up with his or her peers.

From this data, an intervention, an instructional or behavior-management strategy, is selected that best matches the student’s specific needs. With frequent progress monitoring and formative evaluation, the results of these interventions are gauged for their effectiveness. RtI’s goal is to assist in the student’s learning needs to insure improvement from the implemented measures provided.

RtI is generally used for young students in grades kindergarten through 2nd grade; this is beneficial for detecting any need for learning assistance when the child is young and to quickly intervene.
