North Star Educational Tools will be hosting 3 different Guided Reading Boot Camp K-2 in MN. Each Boot Camp will be six days of training across three months.
Two days in January will be focused on Data Informed Decision Making for Guiding Readers.
This will teach the basics of Guided Reading: 1. )How to use a running record to gather data about your readers. 2.) How to analyze the running records. 3.) How to use the data to guide your readers. 4.) How to teach explicit word study at the guided reading table.
Two days in February will be focused on Guiding Readers in a Readers’ Workshop
This will teach teachers how to plan for guided reading, then backwards plan shared reading, interactive read aloud and morning message to lead into guided reading. It will also show you how to have the group teach the class during share.
Two days in March will be focused on Guiding Readers in a Readers’ and Writers’ workshop.
This will reinforce the planning and backwards planning in readers’ workshop, then help teachers learn to plan forward into writers’ workshop. At the end of the 6 days teachers will understand how Guided Reading is the center of instruction.
Teachers will learn to use the data, along with state standards, the fluency rubric, and the Fountas & Pinnell Continuum, and Swenson Continuum of Written Code to plan their lessons.
